Stainless steel is a great choice of material for either your home or your business. You can purchase a new stainless steel sink from a number of manufacturers, in porcelain-coated steel or regular stainless steel finishes at an affordable price. Your new sink should be functional and attractive, at a decent price.

When choosing your new sink, it is important to look at where and how it will be used, and how you would like to attach it to your countertop. There are not many options in how your plumbing will be installed, but with how the basin will be installed on your countertop, there are a couple of options that you have.

You can choose to purchase and install a self-rimming sink, if you want a sink that is easy to install. Installation of lighter weight sinks, including stainless steel, is usually fairly straightforward. They are held in place in the countertop through the use of clips and a few screws. Certain models of stainless steel and enamel coated sinks utilize a steel rim to hold the sink in place. This can be a sanitation issue, because you will have two seams, both of which can collect gunk and filth.

Under counter mounted sinks are more difficult to install, but offer great ease in clean up. These smooth, sleek sinks have no rim to speak of, and make clean up a snap, by enabling you to wipe of counter surfaces directly into the sink itself. Under counter sinks must be installed in a solid countertop, such as granite, marble, or other solid surface, and will require considerably more time to install than a self-rimming sink.

These negatives are offset by the beautiful look that can be achieved by an under counter mounted sink, and by the greatly increased ease in clean up.
