How to clean fiberglass sinks Make sure you use a non-abrasive cleaner, like a liquid laundry detergent or dishwashing soap. Baking soda in warm water is also a good choice. Anything that is abrasive may scratch the surface of your sink, causing permanent damage. Some all-purpose household cleaners can be used as well, such as Formula 409. Apply any cleaner to the sink surface with a sponge or other non-abrasive item, and rub gently. Make sure you rinse the sink surface thoroughly with clean water to remove all of the cleaning solution. If your fiberglass sink becomes stained, you can apply one of the above cleaners and let stand for an hour or more, and then scrub it and rinse. Heavy soap scum buildup can pose a unique problem for the fiberglass sink. In these instances, you can use a MILD abrasive cleanser, such as Soft Scrub or Bon Ami. It is not recommended that you use these regularly, however. To remove mineral deposits left by hard water, you should use a product made specifically for this purpose. Make sure that whichever product you choose, that it states on the label that it is safe for fiberglass. Most of these products are mild acids that are safe for home use. Lime-Away is one such produce. Make sure you follow the label directions exactly and always wear rubber gloves. More difficult stains, like adhesives, oil paints, and tar require a bit more labor to remove. Nail polish remover, or paint thinner are good choices, but be careful t not use more than is needed, and do not let the solvent go down the drain or touch any plastic fixtures. Use common sense when using solvents.Do not use them around heat or flame, and do not smoke while using them, and make sure you have plenty of ventilation.
